Quotable Quote 2

I thought the following lines from our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, were appropriate on this the feast of St. Pius V.

Tradition is "not a collection of things or words, like a box of dead things. Tradition is the river of new life that proceeds from the origins, from Christ to us, and makes us participate in God's history with humanity."

Incidentally the feast of Pope St Pius V was originally a Double but John XXIII 're-classified' it as a Third Class and Paul VI 're-classified' it again as an Optional memorial, although in Rome it is an Obligatory memorial. Surely if the 'Novus Ordo' was part of the organic development of the liturgy, the Church could have afforded to keep the feast of one of the most important figures in that development. Or was this a subtle hint that at the time they were expecting the liturgical legacy of St Pius to be abandoned or at least ignored.
