"Church" or "Religion"

In a Zenit article on new ordinands in the United States it says "A few have come into the Catholic Church from other religions" and then mentioned a former Southern Baptist.

What intrigued me about this statement was that Southern Baptists were being classed as belonging to another religion not another church (or denomination), which in these days of ecumenism would be considered inaccurate and inappropriate. But then again it probably is appropriate given the Church shuns that seven letter word beginning with 'h' when referring to the generations which have been swept away by the Reformation.
