Pro Sanctis et Fidelibus

Friday, August 18, 2006

Today we honour St. Agapitus, whose obstinate orthodoxy moved the Emperor Aurelian to have him whipped, imprisoned for four days without food, covered in embers, whipped again, suspended above a fire, covered with boiling water, thrown to wild beasts and finally beheaded. All this aged only fifteen.

Dr. Pius Parsch asks what lesson St. Agapitus has for modern youth and answers that while they are not called to martyrdom, they must stand firm against the allurements of sin, in humble obedience to Christ. Thus shall they be found youthful heroes in the sight of God.
