Today a fire practically gutted St. Joseph's Catholic Church here in Melbourne's south, causing thousands of dollars in damage and putting the congregation out for possibly a year. The parish priest who had been appointed less than two years ago, is the National Director of the Guild of St. Stephen. It was the second suspicious fire in the area, following a blaze which destroyed a discount store.
