Ode on the Mass from the Asperges to the Psalm Judica

When I first commenced this blog I promised to post my six-part verse on the Mass but never got round to doing so because there were other literary pieces which merited inclusion. So after a long wait here is part one.

Processing to the sanctuary floor, the thurifier leads in succession
Cross, candles, choir, MC, deacons, priest, in solemn procession
Reaching the altars steps, they each bend the knee in adoration
The priest in cope takes the aspergillum, for our preparation
Sprinkling the people with holy water, to wash them of their sins
He bows with the deacons when the choir the Gloria Patri sings
Returning to the sanctuary, the versicles and prayer are read
That God send his holy angel to keep watch at the church's head
Going to the sedilia, the priest changes out of one holy vestment
Putting on chasuble, maniple, stole for the mass' commencement
At the foot of the altar, he crosses himself and goes unto the God
Who gives joy to his youth, like producing a bud on Joseph's rod
From the unholy nation, he asks God to discern his cause
Deliver him from the evildoer, who knows not his holy laws
To cast him not aside but send forth his light and truth
And bring him to the mount, where he may enter his booth
There to praise him on the harp, who is his hope and salvation
Who made heaven and earth, is worthy of every acclamation
