More on Solemnities

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments has issued notification that in the year 2008 the feast of St. Joseph will be commemorated on March 15th and the feast of the Annunciation on March 31st.

Why the change? Because the actual dates for the two feasts, March 19th and 25th, fall on the Wednesday of Holy Week and Tuesday during the Octave of Easter respectively. Despite being important solemnities in the calendar, the Congregation has said the commemoration of our Lord's passion, death and resurrection must take precedence.
