Liturgical Thoughts of Cardinal Newman

Before his entry into the Catholic Church, Cardinal Newman had delivered a series of sermons at the Church of St. Mary's in Oxford, which were then collected under the title Plain and Parochial Sermons. Even though he was writing as an Anglican at the time, the sermons are remarkably Catholic and I here include some links to a few of these sermons which readers might find interesting because of their liturgical content. One of them, Steadfastness in the Old Paths, is on the importance of tradition. (The page numbers refer to those in the original book and appear on the website thus, {p})

"Sins of Ignorance and Weakness", pages 93-94 http://www.newmanreader.org/works/parochial/volume1/sermon7.html
"An Encouragement to Faith", pages 250-253

"Ceremonies of the Church", pages 69-78

"Stedfastness in the Old Paths", pages 243-257
http://www.newmanreader.org/works/parochial/volume7/sermon18.html
"Reverence in Worship", pages 1-16
http://www.newmanreader.org/works/parochial/volume8/sermon1.html
"Attendance on Holy Communion" pages, 146-159

"The Gospel Feast", pages 160-178

PS As I noted above, these were written when Newman was an Anglican, so there may be references to the 'Prayer Book' and Anglican practices. However where it exists these thoughts can be applied to the Catholic equivalent or where it does not exist, the idea behind Newan's thought can be applied.
