The Australiam PM Speaks Out
In an address at University College, Prime Minister John Howard said that he was unapologetic about defending the definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. While homosexuals should not be discriminated against in relation to employment and property rights, equating their relationships with marriage was something else and he would continue to oppose it.
Earlier he had spoken of his desire to continue developing strong economic relationships with China despite their poor human rights record and slow progress in establishing democracy. However he believed that China would eventually undergo a 'tectonic shift' since it could not accommodate both economic liberty and political captivity.

Who is he or you to judge anyone. Jesus would not turn away a single soul. Having a marriage isn't always about children for everyone and I feel disgraced that the catholic church is still in the 16th century

Firstly, thank you for your comment. I would like to respond by stating that this post has nothing to do with the Catholic Church, only the Australian Prime Minister, who is of no fixed religous abode. The only thing Catholic about it is the blogger.
Secondly, you are right that marriage is not entirely about children. It is first and foremost about the conjugal love between spouses, of which children are but one of its fruits. That said, unless you are following some sort of postmodern interpretation of scripture, marriage has always been understood as between a man and a woman.
Finally, if as you say the Catholic Church is living in the 16th century, I can at least take heart that it was one of the greatest in the annals of its history. For that century was marked by the Council of Trent, codification of the Latin mass, Counter-Reformation, founding of several notable religious orders, first Jesuit missions to Asia and the Americas, and above all by the work of such saints as St. Charles Borromeo, Phillip Neri, Francis De Sales, Tersa of Avila, Vincent de Paul and Francis Xavier.

May I add that you might not have noticed the common denominator of the PM's comments, that of a disregard for people's rights.
Also I have changed the title of the post lest it should give offence to readers such as yourself.

You still don't get it do you? Just because you were lucky enough to be born "normal" doesn't give you, the PM, the church or the terrible new pope the right to set "laws" regarding love. I am in no way homosexual but I know people who are and they live in tremendous turmoil. The church won't FULLY accept them so they turn away. Here is what Jesus said: "Love God and love people."
Have you ever noticed that as a story gets told it gets embellished and even exagerated. The Bible is full of misinterpretations set by judgemental people (especially the old testament). I read the Bible, I am a Christian and I live my life by the 2 things Jesus said.
Think carefully before you reply...
